Kawama’s Beach, newly refurbished, South View The Living Room, Veranda & ‘Tree House’ effect of Breeze Filled Palm Trees
Location

Our home is situated in the Kawama Tower at Kawama Yacht Club and is modern and spacious with elegant furnishings. A combination of beautifully maintained gardens, pools and beach facilities ensure a lovely base for a Family or a Romantic Couples holiday and to explore the unique Florida Keys. We pride ourselves on keeping our home very well maintained and to a high decorative standard - a true Home from Home.

Kawama is a convenient 70 minutes drive from Miami.

QUIET LOCATION & SPACIOUS DESIGN
Kawama benefits from being really quiet - at 3/4 mile off US1 on the biggest island, and literally on the Ocean, it is peaceful
We stayed at a couple of places along US1 in Islamorada and Key Largo, and you don't really notice the noise much when it's a steady backdrop during the day....At night time though when you want to sleep, it's quite invasive.
Accomodations that stand alongside US1 suffer particularly in this regard, many of the Lorries making the run south, complete their journey's at night.......

A lot depends on your budget of course.....for the money, another overwhelming benefit at Kawama Tower is the size of the units.
1350 sq feet, in an open plan format compared with 850-1000 sq feet at most other condos we viewed....for a 2 bedroom unit.
Many of the other Condo's we viewed are not designed in an open plan and feel cramped.

Description

The fully air conditioned accommodation at our Kawama Tower Apartment is all on one level. Queen in the master, 2 x full doubles in the second bedroom, sleeping six guests, with the useful option of accommodating two more people on a pull-out double sofa bed in the lounge. Both bedrooms have full en-suite bathrooms with the master being luxuriously appointed with walk-in double shower and fine fixtures & fittings. A spacious 1350 square feet of living space, our condo features all large American appliances and usual smaller kitchen accessories within the fully fitted kitchen. The living room has a 42” Plasma TV, a DVD and CD stereo system. There’s also an integral utility room equipped with washing machine and dryer. The main dining and living area features coral stone effect furniture and ivory leather sofas with patio doors opening onto your private balcony with ocean view from an elevated 4th floor aspect whilst we enjoy a unique 'tree-house' effect of adjacent breeze filled swaying palm trees.
The community is gated for privacy and enjoys 24hr security.

A phone is provided for guests own use. All local calls are free and wireless broadband access is available by prior arrangement.

Additional Kawama Yacht Club Facilities

Kawama features three swimming pools. There's the brand new 'Oasis' pool (pictured) just 15yds from the elevator, another tiled pool - the north pool, and also a large palm fringed saltwater swimming lake which is approximately 1000 feet long and incorporates swimming platforms for the children. There are two floodlit hard tennis courts, whilst for the boaters among our guests, the facilities include a marina, high specification boat ramp suitable for launching larger boats and a hard standing area for boat trailers. Dockage slips are available to rent locally and details can be obtained from the marina office on site. We have a beach area just 2 minutes walk or 150 yards from the Kawama Tower. This is landscaped with PalmTrees and themed with ‘South Seas’ style Tikki shelters for shade with plenty of seating and several beach barbecues for your free use. We also recommend visitors acquaint themselves with the Olympic Scaled Jacobs Aquatic Centre three quarters of a mile from Kawama which has a range of superb facilities for small and big children alike and special adaptations for disabled visitors. Lifeguards are on constant attendance.

White sands, blue seas, tropical breezes, parks and nature reserves

The Florida Keys are renowned for warm clear seas, clean white sands, tropical breezes and glorious sunsets. Kawama's own private beach is available for your use together with many other safe beaches which have the usual amenities associated with Florida such as picnic shelters, barbecues and washrooms.

WHY OUR CONDO ?

Most important to note, unlike the majority of properties you see for rent, our Condo to us is not just an income generating rental property, it is our second home where we look to spend 4+ months per year.
This means to you as a potential renter that the property is :
Impeccably maintained
What you see in the pictures is what you get. i.e. pictures are recent and current, not 5 years old. Nor do they show a previously higher specification of furnishings, subsequently downgraded.
The quality of fixtures and fittings is as you would want it to be in your own home.
We CARE that you enjoy your stay with us. You are after-all visiting our home.

Area Information, Attractions & Distances

Great for anglers and watersports enthusiasts - or just relaxing !

Keen anglers will already be aware that the Florida Keys are the sportfishing capital of the world. Excellent fishing is available from the docks, beaches and bridges, as well as boat trips to suit all pockets. Boating, water skiing, jet skiing, snorkelling, scuba diving and sailing are simply a way of life for Keys residents. Visitors are able to hire equipment and join in.

If you fancy something a little more relaxing there are sailing or casino cruises departing from Key Largo daily. One of our personal favourites, Dolphin Encounters, an interactive dolphin program, is next door to Kawama. There are also a number of fine Golf Courses within easy driving distance.

Close to nature in the Florida Keys

The Florida Keys sitting at the end of the Everglades are full of magnificent and exciting wildlife including interesting birds such as Pelicans, Ibis, Egrets, Herons, Eagles and Ospreys. Kawama enjoys the position of being set on an unspoilt peninsular between the virgin habitat of a bird sanctuary to the south and the beautifully preserved John Pennekamp Marine Coral State Park to the north. Dolphins can often be seen from the shore and if you are very lucky you may glimpse the beautiful but endangered Manatee. A trip at dusk to see the miniature Key deer is also a must for animal lovers.

Family entertainment

We are sometimes asked about visiting Orlando, with its world famous attractions such as Disney, Sea World and Universal Studios. Whilst it is only a five hour drive from Key Largo we do not recommend you book our accommodation if you intend to spend a lot of time in Orlando. Instead we suggest combining both venues in your holiday. After all, it makes good sense to slow down the pace of your holiday and see a bit more of Florida after the frantic and often exhausting theme parks.

The Florida Keys offer their own unique blend of family entertainment. Miami is one hour away with the Sea Aquarium (Sea World) and the Monkey Jungle. The Everglades National Park is also within one hour with the excitement of Alligator farms and air boat rides. Theatre Of The Sea is 15 miles away in Islamorada with the opportunity to swim with the dolphins or stingrays as well as the chance to be kissed by a sealion !

Key West 90 minutes away should be on your list of places to visit with Hemmingway’s House, its daily sunset festival and trolley rides together with the well known Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Cafe.

FINE DINING & OTHER IDEAS FOR A DAY OUT
Ask us about our recommendations for Restaurants and many other exciting themed days out.
Snorkelling aboard the Quicksilver Catamaran : A day by the beach with a Caribbean Flavour.......
lazing in the sun, listening or dancing to Soca and Reggae and drinking some cocktails.
Perhaps you fancy hiring a small craft or a jet-ski to cool off : A fascinating educational tour….
Then visit The Turtle Hospital : Robbies ~ 'Amazing,' 'breathtaking' and 'impressive' are words often heard from first-time visitors to the end of Robbies dock. What they're referring to is the school of 100+ giant tarpon that live here, a 'buck' buys a bucket of baitfish and bedlam ensues as Pelicans and Silver Kings compete for lunch : Crane Point Hammock ~ This unique 63-acre site is home to the Museum of Natural History, Children's Museum, Adderley Town Historic Site, Marathon Wild Bird Center and an extensive nature trail system that leads through a dense tropical forest to a spectacular view of Florida Bay.

LOCAL WATERPARK WHICH ALSO OFFERS DISABLED FRIENDLY SWIMMING FACILITIES
Locally we have the 'Jacobs Aquatic Centre'.
Jacobs is situated 1/2 mile from Kawama at St Croix Place and features a multi lane 25 metre pool, A Dive pool, Pirate Ship with Waterslides and Shallow depth Toddlers Pool. The facility benefits from a constant heated temperature, changing facilities, toilets, pool attendant supervision and is disabled friendly with both lift and ramp access. In all respects this is a fabulous asset on our doorstep in Key Largo

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT
Sports, Theatre and Music are widely available. From local solo artists and small bands upto International stars. Events of one sort or another are nightly all along the Keys. Consult the Free Press, Keynoter or Time Out magazines for details when you arrive.
It’s worth noting if you like Horseracing & you get an off weather day, that there are two courses in Miami (Calder Park & Gulfstream), and together with a day’s racing, they schedule well known musical artists & bands.

SHOPPING
Fresh Fish - Key Largo Fisheries, 1313 Ocean Bay Drive (200 mtrs Kawama)
General Groceries - Publix Supermarket MM 10143 US.1,Oceanside (Tradewinds Plaza Shopping Mall)
General Merchandise - Kmart MM 10143 US.1, Oceanside (Tradewinds Plaza Shopping Mall)
Factory Outlet Malls - Florida City - cross section of Consumer Goods
Cutler Ridge, South Miami Exit 12 from the Turnpike - cross section of Consumer Goods, the largest stores and the biggest choice are here across a 3-4 mile radius.
Dolphin Malls just off the ‘836’ and Turnpike Intersection offers a large selection of stores and choice.

WHERE TO HIRE BOATS & KAYAKS
Within John Pennekamp State Park - there is a boat concession which in our experience offers a particularly professional approach to hire craft. They aren’t the cheapest , but they operate mostly with new engines and operate particularly stringent quality checks which offers peace of mind.
The fact that the marine patrol also operate from here may be coincidence but we don’t think so.

WHEELCHAIR ACCESS
What we always advise is that the accommodation isn't specifically designed for wheelchair access, but is relatively user friendly.
There's lift access to the tower, 2 lifts, one each side........the parking area is ramped upto the lifts, whilst the apartments themselves are all on one level.
The front doors to each apartment accept a wheelchair no problem, and the units benefit from being 'open plan' in the main living area.
On the down-side, the internal doorways are not wide enough for wheelchairs, and the bathrooms are not equipped with grab rails, and other ancillary adaptations. So internally, they are really only suitable for youngsters receiving comprehensive guardian assistance and support.
